One of the hottest new car models to come out of Italy isn’t a Ferrari. No, the car I’m talking about is worthy of a special mention in today’s blog. If you’re a fan of Alfa Romeo cars, you’re in for a real treat because today I’ll be reviewing the Alfa Romeo Giulia!
It’s a brand new model from the car marque and is their first attempt at the luxury saloon market. There is no denying that it wants to take on the likes of the BMW 3 Series. But, is this a car that can put its money where its mouth is? I think so, and I’m sure you’ll agree too. Here’s why:

It has some Ferrari influence
OK, perhaps I lied a little when I said I wasn’t talking about a new Ferrari. Well, technically I’m talking about an Alfa Romeo. But, you might not realise it, but the Giulia does have some Ferrari influence.
The top of the range Quadrifoglio model features a great 503 brake horsepower unit that can go from 0-60 mph in only 3.9 seconds! It’s a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo unit, in case you wondered.
Alfa Romeo says that the Quadrifoglio borrows Ferrari technology. Remember that both Alfa and Ferrari are under the same group ownership (Fiat).
It’s a worthy replacement for the Alfa Romeo 159
Do you remember the executive Alfa Romeo 159 model that got built between 2004-2011? The Giulia is its successor! Back in the day, the 159 was a successful model for the Italian car maker. On the face of it, the Giulia is more than just a worthy replacement. I’d even go so far as to say that it’ll blow it out of the water!
Seeing a 159 for sale at the Eastern Western Motor Group reminded me of how much I loved the 159 I once owned!
Suitable for family and business use
Of course, not everyone will go for the meaty Quadrifoglio model that I mentioned a moment ago. The Giulia comes with a range of engines suitable for different uses.
For example, there are the 2.2-litre Multijet diesel units. They’re available in a variety of power outputs and are good for eating up the miles. And they’re not slow and smelly diesels either! The cream of the crop is the 3.0-litre Multijet twin-turbo diesel. As standard, it boasts 335 brake horsepower.
Aside from the Quadrifoglio’s super-powerful engine, there’s another petrol unit on offer. The 2.0-litre turbo produces a healthy 276 brake horsepower. While it doesn’t have supercar qualities, it won’t leave you catching up with the competition. With such a choice of engines, it’s easy to see why Alfa Romeo have their sights set on BMW 3 Series buyers.
Lots of rear-wheel drive fun
Like its German counterpart, the Alfa Romeo Giulia will have a rear-wheel drive system. That is sure to make the driving experience more fun than FWD alternatives on the market.
