The term ‘classic car’ conjures up images of bygone vehicles from yesteryear. Jaguar, MG, Triumph and Lotus all have models that are considered ‘classic cars’ nowadays. But what modern cars have the potential to be the classics of tomorrow?
The golden age of motoring holds massive appeal for both car enthusiasts and people who enjoy nostalgia in general. The recent International Charity Classic Car Extravaganza held on the Isle of Wight certainly drew in the crowds and highlights the appeal that classic cars have.
So if you’re looking to own a future piece of motoring history, why not consider one of these modern vehicles that might become a future classic:
BMW 1-Series
The BMW 1-Series has the potential to become one of the most sought after BMWs of all time. Enthusiasts, BMW fans and weekend racers alike all have a soft spot for the 1-Series, but why? The answer is simply that the 1-Series is actually quite unique in terms of what it offers.
Its compact nature and rear-wheel drive layout make this coupe relatively rare nowadays. Furthermore, it’s the sort of car that is likely to appeal in say 20 years’ time to people who want a purebred sports coupe that is small and offers a lot of performance for not a lot of money.
The BMW 1-Series could perhaps be the last ‘pure’ BMW we’ll ever see and with a range of different engines and setups, it’s a car which exudes purity and deserves attention. Just be sure to arrange a BMW service to afford yourself trouble-free motoring in the future.
Honda S2000
A fitting tribute to the S-series roadsters of the 1960s, the Honda S2000 is an enthusiasts favourite and a guaranteed future classic car. In fact, the S2000 is regarded by many as the best thing to be produced bearing a Honda badge in the last 10 years.
With its aggressive styling and fantastic performance, the S2000 is timeless. Let’s not forget that its 237-horsepower engine, low centre of gravity and evenly distributed weight make it a force to be reckoned with. Just be sure that if you buy one in the future you get the engine thoroughly checked and try not to end up with a car that was owned by one of the ‘Fast and Furious’ generation.
Audi RS4
With the RS4, Audi got it right. So right in fact that the 2007 RS4 boasts goodness that is reminiscent of the German brand’s legendary 1980s Quattro. Therefore, it’s pretty safe to say that the RS4 is a very likely candidate to be a future classic car. Just don’t hide yours away in the garage in years to come. Get it out on the track at a future Goodwood Revival.
Its impressive 4.2-litre V8 engine produces over 400-horsepower and sends all this energy to all four wheels. The exterior styling and beefed up bodywork make the RS4 look the part too. The RS4 screamed performance in such a subtle way that you might miss it.
Open the RS4’s doors and you’ll be greeted with an interior that wouldn’t look out of place in an aeroplane cockpit. Heated leather seats, bi-HID headlights (Xtralights) and dual-zone climate control all feature as standard and make for a very comfortable ride.
