A muscle car happens to be power and beauty combined into one mean machine. A muscle car according to a certain magazine is exactly what it’s name implies. It is basically taking a big engine and putting it in a small car. The 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 is considered to be the first classic muscle car in the business, it contained a very powerful engine in a very light body.
Tough, masculine, and high-performance was what it’s name implied thus creating a wave in the automobile industry whose best customers were the youth of that time. The time during the production of the classic muscle cars was when the American automobile production industry was considered to have reached its zenith. Not only for it’s classic disproportionate concept but also for the fact that it was used for drag racing as well, the muscle car owed a lot to the era which has been lost in the sands of time.
Muscle cars were only built between 1964 to 1973 in the U.S and Australia. The most popular ones included the Dodge Charger, the Plymouth Road Runner, and the Chevrolet El Camino. An emerging trend in the youth market the muscle cars companies began to design cars that were best suited for street racing so as to cash in on the youngsters of the country. Therefore, due to such modifications the cost of the muscle car began to rise thus dropping the sales, which lead to the development of the ‘budget muscle car’.
Although classic muscle cars had its golden period and there were a few muscle cars for sale, the idea started to wear out after a while due to their price and the maintenance. Only a few cars were turned into luxury cars which can still be seen on the roads even today, but the classic muscle car’s golden era has ended.
